PEACE IS LOUD
Posted Fri, Feb 26th 2010, 18:22I want to introduce you to Peace is Loud, a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit based in New York City, that grew from and was inspired by the story told in the award-winning documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell. This film tells the extraordinary story of a small band of Liberian women who joined together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their country.
Ok, so what does this have to with cruising? It is a long story but I will try shortening it for you. I had the opportunity to view a screening of Pray the Devil Back to Hell last year at the Palm Springs Film Festival. This film haunted me for months…I could not get it off my mind. I finally decided that although this film won the Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival, it needed to be seen again and again and the voices of these women needed to continue to be heard. So, what better way to view a screening of this extraordinary film then on a ship. And, what better way to support the voices of women through out the world than through a fundraiser cruise.
So, we are back to the beginning, Peace is Loud. This non-profit organization seeks to continue the films legacy with a mission of supporting other female voices focused on peace-building. To help them achieve their goals, I have put together two fundraiser cruises and the first screening at sea of the documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell, September 26, 2010 on Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas and October 3, 2010 on Celebrity’s Solstice.
As quoted by Abigail Disney the Producer of Pray the Devil Back to Hell and the founder of Peace is Loud.
“Peace is a process it is not an event. Peace is something you make, something you do. Peace is a verb. Peace is a series of choices and decisions. It must be defended. It must be fought for. Peace is not a cozy corner. It is the center of everything. Peace is not quiet. PEACE IS LOUD.”
Come join us with your “outside voice” and support all women in all areas of the world
